The New $10 Bil - Safer. Smarter. More Secure.

The new $10 design retains three of the most important security features that were first introduced in the 1990s and are easy for consumers and merchants alike to check: color-shifting ink, watermark and security thread.

Hold the note up to the light and look for the watermark, or faint image, similar to the large portrait of TreasurySecretary Alexander Hamilton. The watermark is part of thepaper itself and can be seen from both sides of the note. Ablank oval has been incorporated into the new $10 designto highlight the watermark’s location
  Color-Shifting Ink
Look at the number “10” in the lower rightcorner on the face of the note. When youtilt the note up and down, the color-shiftingink changes color from copper to green.
Security Thread
Hold the note up to the light andlook for the security thread, orplastic strip, that is embedded inthe paper and runs vertically tothe right of the portrait. If youlook closely, the words “USA TEN”and a small flag are visible alongthe thread from both sides of thenote. This thread glows orangewhen held under ultraviolet light. In the redesigned $10 note, thethread has shifted slightly tothe right of its location on olderseries $10 notes.
